The Kent Hale Smith Laboratory for Science and
Engineering was constructed in 1993 and is the home for
the Department of Macromolecular Science. It comprises
90,000 gross square feet (more than 8350 square meters)
of floor space, providing 55,000 net square feet (5100
square meters) of laboratories, classrooms and offices.
We are located on Adelbert Road, adjacent to Chemistry
and Physics, opposite to the Medical School, and
connected to Chemical Engineering in the A.W. Smith
Building and the old Case quadrangle by a third floor
bridge. As a result, we are in an excellent position for
collaborative research involving other disciplines. The
building comprises five floors, plus a basement: the
chemical laboratories are on the top floor, heavier
equipment is on the ground floor, and laboratories
mainly for structure-property analysis occupy the other
floors (except for the majority of electron microscopes
in the basement which minimize vibrations).
